March 12, 2012
Camp Choe
9 am – 4 pm

On March 12, 2012, the Girl Scouts will celebrate its 100th Anniversary. To mark this milestone and to honor founder Juliette Gordon Low, who loved nature and the outdoors, Girl Scouts of all ages, volunteers, and alumnae are engaging in Girl Scouts Forever Green. This nationwide, take-action project offers a meaningful leadership experience that makes a huge positive impact on the environment.

The Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida will honor our Centennial Anniversary by holding a one-day 100th Anniversary Girl Scout Celebration focused on Forever Green. On March 12, 2012, girls between the ages of 5-17 will convene at Camp Choee to honor Girl Scout founder, honor planet Earth, and honor the powerful sisterhood of Girl Scouts by being a part of something bigger than oneself.

Our Forever Green Anniversary Celebration will feature environmental education and activities surrounding waste management, water conservation, energy conservation and green space. For example, girls will learn how replacing incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient light bulbs lowers one’s carbon footprint. Girl will also learn about water and recreate the water cycle. In addition, the day will include art and crafts activities that use recycled materials, such as plastic water bottles and metal can pop-tops.

Our objective is to promote environmental literacy and awareness, reduce the carbon footprint, protect natural resources, and encourage the girl participants to take actions in their daily life throughout the year that will help protect the environment and conserve natural resources.
